Program Management
• Perform all duties as assigned by the campus administration, and/or Assistant Director of Fine Arts

• Communicate continually with students on instructional expectations and keep them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations
• Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress
• Comply with established FBISD policies and procedures regarding fundraising, budget management, inventory and materials management, student travel, employee travel, private lessons, and the submission of entry forms and fees by prescribed deadlines

Professional Responsibilities

Experience Required: A minimum of 2 years of related work experience is required, with a preference for those who have experience directing productions and managing technical theater in an educational or community theater setting.
Required Knowledge: High proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and experience with Student Information Systems like VeraCross.

Organization
Designed and built in 1930 by architect David Castle, the Historic Paramount Theatre is one of West Texas’s most treasured cultural landmarks. A stunning example of the nostalgic “atmospheric” movie palace, the theatre was created during an era when attending the cinema was intended to be a grand and immersive experience. The main auditorium was designed to resemble a Spanish/Moorish courtyard at night, complete with drifting projected clouds, twinkling stars, and a neon-lit sky that transported audiences to another world.

Restored in 1987 and renovated to accommodate live theatre performances, the Paramount has evolved into a vibrant multidisciplinary performing arts venue serving the Abilene community and surrounding region. Today, the theatre hosts a broad range of programming, including concerts, film screenings, ballet, opera, touring productions, comedy performances, educational programming, and community events. For nearly 100 years, the Paramount has remained a defining entertainment destination and an enduring symbol of the cultural life of West Texas.

The theatre’s programming is intentionally broad and diverse. Each year features between 150 and 170 nights of live performances or active rental use. Numerous local nonprofit organizations utilize the Paramount as their performance home, and facility rentals remain a significant source of earned revenue. Though originally constructed as a movie palace, films continue to be screened throughout the year. Paramount Productions has presented an annual summer musical for more than 30 years and produces a children’s musical each January. Since 2020, the theatre has also produced twice-yearly cabaret performances that have become highly popular with audiences. In 2022, the organization expanded its focus on touring concerts and stand-up comedy events; what began as a goal of four touring presentations in the first year grew to more than 30 such events in 2025. Additional earned revenue is generated through concessions and bar sales.

Recent upgrades and restoration projects demonstrate the organization’s ongoing commitment to preserving and modernizing the facility. Improvements include a new downstairs concessions area and bar (2025), expansion into the adjacent Wooten Hotel for additional office space (2024), complete LED stage lighting replacement (2025), mezzanine chair replacement (2023), installation of a new house audio system (2021), and a new digital projector (2021). In summer 2026, the theatre will undertake a nearly $400,000 marquee replacement project featuring a new LED marquee system. A donor-funded architectural lighting and safety enhancement project totaling approximately $1.5 million is also underway.

The Paramount has a 17-member board of directors led by Chair Ronalyn Sutphen. The Executive Director reports to the board of directors and oversees six full-time staff members and 40 part-time staff members. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, Paramount reported total revenue of $2.1 million, including 49% from contributions and 51% from earned revenue sources. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to represent the Paramount to diverse audiences and donors, are important. Compensation and Benefits
The Paramount provides a competitive and equitable compensation package with an estimated salary range of $110,000 to $125,000. Benefits include paid time off and comprehensive employee support programs designed to promote work-life balance and long-term financial wellness. Full-time employees receive 12 vacation days annually, with additional accrual based on years of service, along with 12 sick days per year. Health insurance premiums for employee-only coverage are paid 100% by Paramount, with eligibility beginning on the first of the month after 60 days of service. Rogers theatre students are competitive, hardworking, and hungry to grow as performers, designers, and storytellers.

Courses currently include middle school theatre, high school theatre, production classes, and technical theatre. The program has continued to grow in both participation and community visibility over the last several years.

Rogers ISD operates on a hybrid school calendar with several four day instructional weeks throughout the year, creating opportunities for professional growth, production preparation, and work life balance. The district has also supported theatre professional development opportunities including Maestro workshops, theatre conventions, and UIL training experiences.

The theatre facilities include a dedicated cafetorium performance space, large classroom theatre spaces, large costume and prop/furniture inventory, and production equipment that supports both performance and technical instruction.

Position Responsibilities:
This position includes teaching theatre courses at both the middle school and high school levels while directing productions and managing extracurricular theatre activities. Experience with UIL One Act Play and/or technical theatre is preferred. Candidates should be passionate about student growth, collaboration, and building positive relationships within a small school community.

King HS Theatre program, which puts on multiple main stage theatre productions annually, has experienced a lot growth in both quality and size in the last few years, having earned Tommy Tune Awards and Nominations, advanced in the UIL One Act Play process, chartered a Texas Thespian troupe, started an Improv Theatre program, increased its specialized advanced Technical Theatre offerings, hosted/participated in the Texas Thespians Short Play Contest pilot project, and added an Inclusion Theatre program this year and a Musical Theatre for PE Credit class for next year. C.E. King High School is a relatively new facility with multiple theatre-specific spaces (including a full Scene Shop) and access to a beautiful and contest-ready Performing Arts Center, and this coming year, the district will open a brand new 9th/10th Grade Campus on the same grounds that will include an oversized Black Box, a theatre classroom, and Scene Shop facilities as the dedicated spaces for this position and will have access to a Fine Arts Gym for larger space for activities like choreography.

The ideal candidate would have a background in Musical Theatre and choreography, successful experience in UIL One Act Play, and at least working knowledge in the various areas of Tech Theatre and Film, but all forms of Theatre experience will be considered, with final courseload based on your skills/experience relative to the 2 other High School Theatre Directors (though an ability to be successful with entry level theatre students in a Theatre Arts 1 introductory course is a basic expectation). At least a bachelor's degree in theatre or a relevant field, EC-12 Theatre Educator Certification, and the ability to succeed at Title I campuses is required. Professional theatre experience (acting, directing, and/or tech); youth/community educational theatre experience; film experience; ability to sew/costume; comfort with set/prop construction and tools; experience in Texas Thespians; and/or Dance, Music, or PE Educator Certification are all pluses but are not required. A description of the classes you would teach:

Theatre 7/8 is offered to all 7th and 8th graders on campus. It includes students with a wide range of experience—some are taking theatre for the first time, while others have participated every year in middle school. This is a year-long, general theatre course.

Tech Theatre is also offered to all 7th and 8th graders and may be repeated. Some students will have prior experience, while others will be new. During production season, students use class time to support performances (costumes, props, set design, etc.). During the off-season, students learn about all aspects of technical theatre and apply their learning through hands-on projects.

Multimedia is offered to all 7th and 8th graders, but it cannot be repeated. Students learn the fundamentals of video production through project-based learning. The curriculum has been thoughtfully developed in collaboration with Mrs. Bower, so it is accessible even for someone with limited prior experience. This class also produces the school’s daily video announcements. Please note that beginning next year, this course will count for high school credit, so the teacher in this position will need to hold (or obtain) EC–12 Technology Applications certification.

Job Description:

Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the overall theatre program for the campus and district. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular theatre activities and ensure compliance with all state and district requirements. Plan and administer theatre activities in accordance with campus and district expectations. Plan and prepare to provide students the opportunity to achieve district, region, and state recognition.
Qualifications:
ESL Certification preferred or ESL Certification required within two (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in 2010-11 school year
Knowledge of overall operation of theatre program
Able to manage budget and personnel
Knowledge of state, UIL, TETA, and ITS policies governing theatre activities
Able to interpret policy, procedures, and data
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Theatre directing/technical experience preferred
Experience with one act play required
Salary:$66,500 Per Year
