Primary Purpose
Provide district-wide leadership and expertise in technical theatre by overseeing theatre facilities, production systems, stage operations, and technical training programs in addition to assisting with directing of productions at Duncanville High School. Support the safe and effective operation of all theatre venues while developing student excellence in technical theatre, theatrical design, production management, and competitive technical theatre events, including UIL, Texas Thespians, and Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre Awards.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned (Theatre EC-12)
Extensive knowledge of technical theatre, theatrical production, and entertainment technology.
Demonstrated experience in theatrical lighting, sound reinforcement, rigging, scenic construction, projections, stage management, and production management.
Knowledge of current industry-standard theatrical equipment, software, and production practices.
Strong understanding of theatre safety standards and risk management procedures.
Knowledge of UIL One-Act Play, UIL Theatrical Design, Texas Thespians, and Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre Awards requirements and procedures.
Ability to manage multiple facilities, productions, and events simultaneously.
Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
Ability to train students and staff in technical theatre disciplines.
Theatre Facilities and Operations
Oversee the operation, maintenance, and readiness of all Duncanville ISD theatre facilities, black box spaces, performance venues, and related production areas.
Ensure all theatrical equipment, including lighting systems, sound systems, rigging, fly systems, projections, curtains, stage machinery, and communication systems, are functioning properly and safely.
Develop and maintain district standards for theatre operations, equipment usage, and safety procedures.
Coordinate technical support for productions, assemblies, graduations, concerts, district events, and community performances held in district facilities.
Conduct regular inspections of theatre facilities and equipment and make recommendations for repairs, upgrades, and replacements.
Assist campus directors with technical planning, production logistics, and event execution.
Manage facility usage procedures and support scheduling of theatre spaces district-wide.
Technical Theatre Education and Student Development
Provide district-wide training and instruction in technical theatre disciplines including:
Lighting Design and Programming
Sound Design and Audio Engineering
Scenic Design and Construction
Costume and Makeup Design
Properties Design and Management
Stage Management
Projection and Media Design
Theatrical Rigging and Safety
Production Management
Mentor and train student technicians, designers, stage managers, and production crews.
Develop opportunities for students to earn recognition and advancement in technical theatre.
Support student leadership development within technical theatre programs and Thespian chapters.
Competitive Events and Student Achievement
Coordinate and assist with preparation for UIL One-Act Play technical elements.
Lead training and mentorship for UIL Theatrical Design competitions.
Support student participation in Texas Thespians technical theatre events and competitions.
Assist students in preparing portfolios, presentations, and design projects for regional, state, and national competitions.
Support technical aspects of productions submitted for Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre Awards.
Coordinate workshops, clinics, and master classes with theatre industry professionals.
Production Management
Assist campus directors in planning and executing theatrical productions throughout the district.
Provide expertise in production scheduling, technical rehearsals, load-ins, strikes, and event operations.
Coordinate technical resources, equipment sharing, and production support among campuses.
Develop district-wide production standards that promote safety, efficiency, and educational excellence.
Serve as a technical consultant for major productions and special events.
Communication and Collaboration
Collaborate with campus administrators, theatre directors, fine arts staff, and district personnel to support theatre operations and productions.
Maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, community partners, and professional arts organizations.
Serve as the district liaison for technical theatre initiatives and opportunities.
Professional Growth and Leadership
Maintain current knowledge of emerging theatre technologies and industry best practices.
Participate in professional organizations including TxETA, EdTA, USITT, Broadway Dallas, and UIL.
Attend professional development opportunities related to technical theatre, theatre management, and facility operations.
Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible conduct at all times.
Additional Duties
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Fine Arts to support theatre facilities, productions, technical theatre education, and student achievement throughout Duncanville ISD.
