Middle & Upper School Theater Teacher
Reports to the Head of Middle School & Head of Upper School

Saint Thomas’ Episcopal School seeks an individual to serve as an instructor, role model, and spiritual guide for the students in his/her class. We are seeking a Theater Teacher who is enthusiastic about Christian education, passionate about working with young students, and committed to the development, growth, and success of all his/her students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Directing & Production Leadership
• Artistically direct, stage, and produce a diverse theatrical season, putting on 3–4 shows a year (e.g., a Middle School play, an Upper School play, a full-scale musical, and/or a one-act festival).
• Manage the entire production calendar, including auditions, casting, rehearsal schedules, and budget tracking for each show.
• Foster an inclusive, growth-minded ensemble environment where students of all skill levels feel valued and supported.
Technical Direction & Production Design
• Serve as the primary Technical Director for the school's theater facility, ensuring a safe, organized, and professionally run backstage environment.
• Design—or guide students in designing—sets, lighting, sound, and props for all mainstage productions.
• Supervise the construction of sets and the hanging/focusing of lights, implementing strict safety protocols for all stage machinery and tools.
• Train and mentor student running crews (stage management, light board operators, sound engineers, and deck hands) for live performances.
Curriculum & Instruction
• Develop and teach engaging Drama curricula for Middle School (focusing on foundational skills, improvisation, and building confidence) and Upper School (focusing on advanced acting techniques, theater history, and script analysis).
• Integrate technical theater concepts into standard coursework, exposing students to lighting, sound design, and set building as viable creative pathways.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education / Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Theater Education, Directing, Technical Theater, or a related field, a Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
Experience Required: A minimum of 2 years of related work experience is required, with a preference for those who have experience directing productions and managing technical theater in an educational or community theater setting.
Required Knowledge: High proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and experience with Student Information Systems like VeraCross.

Compensation and Benefits:
